The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Rt Hon Thérèse Coffey MP, has issued a direction to local authorities.

The direction is to temporarily relax permitting conditions for fuel switching from gas to permitted non-gas alternative fuels for local authority permit holders in England, outside of normal permit conditions, during the winter periods of:

  • 1 November 2023 to 30 April 2024
  • 1 November 2024 to 30 April 2025

This is to address security of gas supplies if they arise, whilst limiting pollution.
