Three men who were chased down by police officers and a police dog after they carried out an armed burglary in Hackney have been convicted.

Deurell Doodnaughtsingh 23 (13.06.00) of Dunsfold way, Joshua Paddy, 22 (06.12.00) of Lett Road and Derek Miranda 18 (10.11.04) of St Francis Road, entered a property in Hackney on 13 July, at around 03:00hrs, masked and armed with crowbars. They searched the property for drugs and money, they then attacked two residents whilst they slept in their bed, causing injuries.

A neighbour heard cries of distress from the property and called the police. Officers attended the scene and the suspects fled from the back of the property.

Officers chased down the suspects on foot, and were able to detain Doodnaughtsingh and Paddy. Miranda was then found a couple of hours later by a police dog. He was hiding in a nearby school basement.

Both residents received medical attention, and have made a full recovery.

The three defendants appeared at Wood Green crown court on Monday 7 August where they pleaded guilty to taking part in an aggravated burglary.

Sentencing will take place on Friday, 6 October.

Detective Constable Kevin O’Shea said ‘I cannot begin to imagine the terror that the victims experienced when these three men entered their bedroom at 3am, masked and armed with crowbars. These verdicts reflect the commitment of police in bringing those guilty of such crimes to account and also in bringing justice to victims’.
