Detectives investigating a firearms discharge in Tower Hamlets are appealing for witnesses and information.

The incident happened at around 01:45hrs on Monday, 17 June in Shandy Street. E1. A firearm was discharged which caused damaged to a residential property but thankfully no one was injured as a result.

A fast-time investigation led by specialist Trident detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command identified a black BMW car linked to the suspects. This car was stopped nearby and two men were arrested and subsequently charged with firearms offences.

Detective Inspector Iain Wallace who leads the investigation said:

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed this incident, or who has information that could assist our investigation to get in touch immediately. We continue to work tirelessly to compile evidence and any piece of information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove to be crucial.”

Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney responsible for policing in Tower Hamlets said:

“We continue to work with our Specialist Crime colleagues and our local communities to locate illegal firearms and arrest the criminals responsible. I hope this this swift action acts as a stark warning to those who engage in violent criminality involving firearms, that you will be identified and taken off the streets.”
