29 May 2024 06:00 Man convicted of raping young girl in 1990s A man who raped and sexually abused a girl over a period of years in the 1990s has been found guilty of multiple offences.

A man has been convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against a teenage girl who showed incredible bravery in coming forward to speak to police.

Colin Moore – 57 (04.06.66) of Grove Lane, Southwark was found guilty of four counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault following the conclusion of a trial at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 24 May. Moore was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at the same venue on 9 September 2024.

The court heard how Moore took advantage of the girl who was under the age of 16 at the time the offending started in 1995. Moore’s abuse took place over the next four years at locations in west and central London.

The girl, by now an adult, came forward and reported the abuse to police in 2020. Moore was arrested and subsequently charged with numerous offences.

Detective Sergeant Laura Harcombe from the Central West Command Unit said:

“Colin Moore is a sexual predator who manipulated and abused a vulnerable young girl he knew. Even when he was interviewed, he tried to pass off his behaviour in many circumstances as acceptable, something that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“This woman has shown great courage to come forward and report the abuse she suffered over a prolonged period of time to police. We have specially trained officers who have supported her throughout this process and I can only hope that Moore’s conviction brings her some form of closure.”
