A man has been sentenced for attempted murder after a diligent investigation led by detectives that involved his extradition from France.
Bodrul Alam, 25, (01.07.99), of Orde Hall Street, Bloomsbury, appeared on Friday, 2 August at the Old Bailey, where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison having been convicted at an earlier hearing of attempted murder.
The court heard that police were called to an address in Camden on 29 April 2023 to reports that a female had been repeatedly stabbed.
Alam was quickly identified as a suspect and police worked with international partners to identify his whereabouts. He was arrested near Versaille, France on 19 July and was returned to the UK on 3 August 2023.
Detectives from the Camden and Islington Community Safety Unit (CSU) led the case and supported the victim and her family throughout.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Craig Mascall, said: “This sentence shows that domestic violence will not be tolerated. Bodrul Alam is a dangerous individual and it is right that he will serve a long custodial sentence.
“I commend the bravery of the victim throughout this case and in particular, the courage and actions of her young children that ultimately saved her life. This case demonstrates the lengths we will go to bring offenders to justice and protect woman from violence.”
