Renewable Energy Developer for Wales: recruitment

Title: Chief Executive
Location: Wales (with home working)
Salary: Attractive salary
Closing date: Noon 2 May 2023

The Welsh Government is establishing a publicly owned renewable energy developer. Its purpose is to put net zero and the communities of Wales at the heart of the transition required to address the  huge challenge of climate change.  The new state-owned energy developer will scale up the rollout of renewable energy projects across the Welsh public estate, principally through onshore wind and solar PV technologies.  We aim to have more than one gigawatt of locally owned, locally generated clean energy by 2040. We have a genuine opportunity here to produce an income that will be reinvested in improving people’s lives in Wales as well as creating good quality, clean energy jobs.

This new company should drive a new approach to delivering benefits from renewables that really make a difference to communities. The current cost of living crisis underlines the importance of energy in our society and involving people in developing different models of benefit sharing will be crucial to the company’s success.

To help us achieve our ambitions, we are looking for a Chief Executive who will set and deliver a clear vision for the company.  You will work with a small core team, initially of up to 12 staff, guiding the development of strategies and business plans to develop and implement a portfolio of onshore renewable wind and solar PV energy projects across Wales.

Good candidates will bring a proven track-record of leadership experience working at a senior level.  You will possess deep experience of the renewable energy sector together with an understanding of developing and delivering projects within the UK energy system.  The strongest applicants will be able to demonstrate their ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders across industry, central and local government and partners across both the public and private sectors.  Most of all you will have a passion and commitment to making a real difference for current and future generations, with a constant appetite for improvement.

Please read the candidate information pack.

Closing date for applications is noon on Friday 5 May 2023 with interviews expected to be held w/c 22 May 2023.
